Nowadays, the competition to get a job with a good position is getting tighter. We have to equip ourselves with many skills that are required by a company. To be able to speak foreign language has become the basic requirement in most companies. In fact, English has been listed as the basic requirement if we are looking for a job in some big companies. Due to the advanced technology, many people are now able to learn English and improve their English skills. Moreover, English has been taught since our school times so we can see the importance of English skills in our life. However, the English that we know and learn whether at school or from the other sources are mostly General English.
If we want to be a professional in our workplace, we have to understand what we should learn in order to improve ourselves. For example, when we know the English that we learn at school or by ourselves is just General English, we need to find out about the English that is related to our job. That kind of English is called English for Specific Purposes or ESP. ESP has many special skills, depending on our job which we can learn specifically. ESP covers the job sectors, such as Banking and Finance, Food and Beverages, Hospitality, Logistics, Customer Service and many more. We have to understand that the English used for Hospitality is totally different from Finance and Banking. This is caused by the contexts and the terminologies used. We will realize the English that we have learnt for quite a long time is basically General English which can be used in daily situations but not really in specific working contexts. Therefore, learning English for Specific Purpose or ESP would benefit us a lot.
There are two main reasons for us to learn English for Specific Purpose or ESP if we want to have more specific English skills to support our job. First, we can upgrade ourselves. Since there are now many people who have basic skills of English, we need to find a way to make ourselves better than others. If we learn English for Specific Purposes or ESP, we will add more values to ourselves. Not all people have the chance to learn it, so we should take the chance if we can. English for Specific Purposes or ESP covers more specific English which focuses more on the sectors itself. As we know English for Specific Purpose or ESP can be adjusted to our needs, we only need to make sure what our objective is. As an example, when we work in the banking sector, Banking and Finance can be our choice when taking English for Specific Purposes or ESP. We could learn more specific terminologies and explore more on the context so we can use English more specifically. By doing so, we will be considered to have a plus point when looking for a job. If we already have the job, it will help us to be promoted.
Second, we do not waste time. The good thing about taking English for Specific Purposes or ESP is that we could save more time. We focus on our objectives by directly learning what we need to learn. Usually before we start the English for Specific Purposes or ESP course, we will be asked what our focus is so the English Course can help us to decide the best program for us. If we can get the appropriate materials, supportive teachers and peers during the learning process, we will acquire the lessons better. We can be satisfied with it but we still have to find a way to upgrade ourselves. We always need to see the existing opportunities to compete with others.

Furthermore, we will save time by taking English for Specific Purposes or ESP programs to support our job.
