1. Is there a trial class? Is there a class demo I can watch?

Yes and yes! Consult with one of our associates to arrange for a trial class and experience English Today first hand.

OR you can watch a few of our class demos here:

Offline class:
– English Camp with English Massive Kediri
– Negotiation Skills with Bank Danamon

Online class:

2. What’s the schedule like? How soon can I start? Is the schedule flexible?

You can start as soon as possible. Don’t worry about flexibility because we follow your schedule and we stick to it until the end of the program.

3. What’s the maximum number of students per class?

We never put a limit to the number of students per class – you decide how many to put in your classes. However, for the most effective training, we strongly recommend a maximum of 15 pax per offline class and 10 pax per online class.

4. How many levels are in a class? Can multiple levels join one class?

We strive to always group only one level per class. However, we offer the flexibility to have closer levels together in a single class under recommendations of our Academic Team.

5. What’s your passing score?

Our passing score is 75% with a minimum class attendance of 75%. Corporate classes may adjust these numbers accordingly to your needs under the discretion of our Academic Team.

6. Can I reschedule my sessions?

You may reschedule your sessions 4x per program with prior notice (in the morning of or the day before). Beyond this or last minute reschedules will be counted into your sessions.

7. Can the trainer come to our office? Can we come to ET’s office instead?

Great news! You need not worry about commuting. Our trainers will do the traveling for you; to your office, to your residence, or to a cafe if you decide to learn there. Sit tight and our trainers will be there – most likely even before you arrive!

1. Do you offer customized programs?

Absolutely, all our programs are customizable. Although most of our clients are happy with our General Business English (GBE) syllabus, some prefer to tweak their programs to meet specific needs. Let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll design them for you.

2. What’s the difference between General English (GE) and General Business English (GBE)?
In GE, you’ll cover topics about everyday life: family, traveling, shopping habits, holidays, television/movies, celebrities, gadgets, technology, even society, crime, and world politics! On the contrary, GBE covers everything within the professional environment, such as work-life balance, problems at work, dealing with customers, corporate events, presentations, business meetings, negotiations, even international marketing, change management, and risk management.

3. Can I take the Corporate Climbers program if I score below pre-intermediate?
The short answer is yes, you can. However, as this is a skills-based program, we strongly recommend you to be at least a pre-intermediate user before joining this program. Users of lower levels tend to focus more on the language skills (grammar and vocabulary) than the actual skills they are learning, e.g. presentations skills, email writing skills, or negotiation skills. By pre-intermediate level, you are expected to have your basic language skills covered, be able to communicate more freely, and be able to absorb the program with ease.

4. What will I be learning?
Whatever it is you want to focus on. Most of our learners are working professionals and are happy with our General Business English program. If you have special requests, we are glad to facilitate your learning.

1. What’s the placement test like?
There are 2 (two) parts to the placement test: written module and speaking module. The speaking module is done via WhatsApp voice call (no video necessary). We’ll ask you general questions about your personal life and work life, so no preparation is needed.

The written module will be done from a browser. This module covers listening skills, reading skills, writing skills, and grammar and vocabulary knowledge. We will send you the test link to your email and you can take it anytime at your convenience.

2. How long does the placement test take? How long does it take to get my results?
The speaking module takes less than 5 minutes, but you have 90 minutes maximum to finish the written module. Don’t worry, most of our participants finish the written module in about an hour. The results will come out immediately after you finish both modules (same day or the day after). For corporate clients, this usually takes about one week in total from the start of testing to results and class grouping recommendations.

3. What do my scores mean?
There are a total of 5 scoring components:

L= listening skills

GV= grammatical accuracy and lexical resources (vocabulary)

R= reading skills

W= writing skills

S= speaking skills

Overall= total average of all components

Average receptive skills= average score for L, GV, and R

Average productive skills= average score for W and S

You can think of receptive skills as passive skills and productive skills as your active language skills.

We take a holistic approach of looking at each of your components and the combination of the three scoring groups: overall score, average receptive skills, and average productive skills when determining language proficiency (with average productive skills weighing more in our decision). As such, participants with similar results may be put in different levels depending on their language components and score groups.

1. Can I have a look at the trainer’s profile?

Is it possible to know which companies a trainer has previously taught?
Check some of our trainers’ profiles on our website. Once you have decided on your schedule, we can send you the detailed teacher CV for reference.

2. Do you have native-speaking trainers? Where are they from?

We have native-speaking trainers from Australia, New Zealand, the US, and the UK. Rest assured their first language is English and grew up in an English-speaking country.

3. Can your native-speaking trainers speak Bahasa Indonesia?

Many of our trainers have lived many years in Indonesia, but many barely can speak Bahasa Indonesia! Understandably, they’re here to teach English. Their Bahasa Indonesia is only sufficient to get by in the country.

4. What’s the difference between your local and native-speaking trainers?

We hire experienced trainers specifically in teaching ESL (English as a Second Language). Both our local and international trainers are equally equipped to guide you in your language learning journey. The only difference is probably how YOU feel around them.

In our experience, you tend to be more relaxed and confident around our local trainers because you feel less intimidated by them. For this reason, we often suggest taking the combo trainers package where you begin your training with a local trainer to build confidence, then you meet our native-speaking trainers to further develop your language skills and learn to be at ease around expatriates.

5. Can I switch trainers in the middle of training?

Absolutely. Training is all about chemistry. Sometimes you love your trainer, sometimes you just don’t – we completely understand. Tell us if you need to switch trainers and we’ll propose another right away – no hard feelings. But remember, the more you switch trainers, the more inconsistent your learning plan will be and the more difficult it is to monitor your progress.

6. Do you have trainers in remote locations?

We have trainers available in major cities across Indonesia to ensure that we can provide quality training services to as many individuals as possible. Additionally, we also offer remote training options (online learning) that allow you to learn with us from anywhere in the world. Our remote training options are designed to provide the same level of quality and engagement as our in-person training (offline training) sessions, so you can receive the support and guidance you need to succeed, no matter where you are located.

1. Does the investment include the student book?

Yes, the investment plan includes placement test, progress test, final test, student book / handouts, supplementary materials, reports, and a certificate. All-in, you got nothing else to worry about.

2. What’s the term of payment like?
Our term of payment is as follows:

private/public classes= 100% prior to the start of training
corporate classes= 50% prior to the start of training and the remaining 50% before the final test.
3. Can I get a discount for bulk classes?

We appreciate your commitment to expanding your knowledge and skills. We do offer discounts for bulk classes and would be happy to discuss your specific needs and requirements in more detail to determine how we can best accommodate you. Contact one of our associates to discuss the details of the classes you are interested in and the discount options available to you.

1. Where is your center located?
Our head office is located in Bintaro, Tangerang, but don’t worry about commuting here. Our trainers will do the traveling for you; to your office, to your residence, or to a cafe if you decide to learn there. Sit tight and our trainers will be there – most likely even before you arrive!

We also have representative offices in most major cities throughout Indonesia, however we don’t provide public classes in any of our offices, we focus on sending our teachers to you and offering online classes.

2. Can I visit your center before making payments?
Absolutely, we understand that you may want to see our center before enrolling in our training programs. However, please note that our center is primarily a back-office location and that most of the learning is done on-site at our client’s venue. If you have any specific questions about our training programs or would like to discuss your options further, we are more than happy to provide you with any information you need to make an informed decision about your training needs.

3. If I join an on-going class, how will I keep up with the class?
Our trainers are experienced in helping new students get up to speed with ongoing classes, and will work with you to ensure that you are comfortable with the training material and pace of the class. Additionally, our trainers are always available to answer any questions you may have and provide you with the support and guidance you need to succeed, including outside of class. We are committed to helping all of our students achieve their training goals, regardless of when they join the class.

4. Can I get the lesson topic prior to the session?

All our lessons are outlined in the syllabus, agreed upon before the start of your training. Moreover, you don’t need any prior knowledge of the topics to be able to follow the lessons. We build upon your existing knowledge and use learning scaffoldings to guide you along the way through individual exercises, group discussions, role plays, simulations, and interactive games.

Yes, we offer referral discounts for students who refer their colleagues, friends, or family members to our training programs. Contact us to discuss the details of our referral program and the discounts that are available to you.

4. Why are you more expensive than most other training providers?

At English Today, we use professional hires only, meaning that we hire teachers who have worked at many very well-known English training centers around Indonesia and they move to English Today in order to teach corporate (Business English) classes, which requires a higher level of teaching.

We pride ourselves on the high-quality training programs that are designed to meet your needs and we believe that investing in your education and training is one of the most important decisions you can make, and we are committed to providing you with the best possible value for your investment.
